There is much written about Minnie's life in the book, "Three Generations" by Katherine Burton, Longmans, Green, and Co., New York, 1947.

It says that Minnie Sherman's wedding to Thomas Fitch was a true "event" in Washington D.C. " St. Aloysius' Church was a blaze of flowers and lights; more than two thousand people attended the ceremony. The President of the United States, General Grant, and his wife attended as well as his Cabinet. Admirals and generals provided a glitter of uniforms, of gold lace and epaulets." General Thomas Ewing and Senator John Sherman were there as well.
